"Daddy, are we having football Sunday next weekend?"
Maggie’s voice rose above the TV, where football players hurled red dodgeballs at each other with full force in Orlando, Florida. As entertaining as it was to watch grown men dive and dodge, football Sundays weren’t just about the games—they were about the Bucs, friends, family, food, and the fun of being together.
"Yes, Maggie," I said with a smile. "Next Sunday is the Super Bowl."
Her face lit up. “Are the Bucs playing?”
“Not this time,” I said. “But the Chiefs are, and we played them in the Super Bowl before.”
She thought for a second. “Who won?”
I grinned and grabbed the remote. “Who do you think?”
I pulled up YouTube and said, “Let’s watch together.”
As we sat there watching Super Bowl LV, we relived the moment our team defied the odds.
We had completely shut down the best quarterback in the league and brought a championship back to Tampa—something few had believed possible.
At the midseason mark, some media heads even labeled Tom Brady’s arrival as “buyer’s remorse” and questioned whether Head Coach Bruce Arians knew how to run an offense with Brady.
But we knew better.
And as the final seconds ticked away and confetti rained down, Maggie turned to me with a thoughtful expression.
"Daddy, why do some teams go to the Super Bowl and others don’t?"
I paused, considering how to explain it in a way she’d understand.
"Because the Super Bowl isn’t just about having the best players, Maggie. It’s about being the best team."

Overcoming the Odds: The Bucs’ Journey to Super Bowl LV
Her question made me think back to that 2020 season.
The Bucs didn’t just walk into that Super Bowl. They had to fight for it.
✅ New quarterback. New system. No preseason.
✅ A rocky start to the year with tough losses and doubters everywhere.
✅ A defense that had to prove it could contain the best offenses in football.
That season, they weren’t the favorites. They weren’t the flashy pick. But they refused to let obstacles define them.
And when it mattered most? They rallied together.
The offensive line gave Brady the time he needed. The defense put relentless pressure on Mahomes. The coaching staff adjusted and prepared for every moment. Every player, from rookies to veterans, committed to one goal—finishing the job.
That’s why they won. Not because of one player. Not because of luck. But because when the moment came, they trusted each other.

Football, Family, and the Power of Teamwork
Later that night, as I tucked Maggie into bed, she whispered sleepily, “Daddy, why did they all jump on each other?”
I chuckled. “Who?”
“The Bucs players. They all jumped on each other after the game.”
I thought for a moment. “Because they knew how much it took to get there,” I said. “They knew they couldn’t have done it alone.”
She scrunched her nose, thinking it over. “So… they were happy because they did it together?”
I smiled, tucking the blanket snugly around her. “Exactly. That’s what a great team does—they lift each other up.”
She yawned, her eyes fluttering shut. “Like you and me?”
I felt a lump in my throat and kissed her forehead. “Always, sweetheart.”
And isn’t that the real challenge—for all of us?
Whether it’s in your home, your workplace, or your community, the burden is on us to lift up others.
Success isn’t about one person carrying the weight—it’s about the whole team carrying it together.
We celebrate the Super Bowl because we admire the dedication, the unity, the moments where players put the team over themselves. But that principle doesn’t just apply to sports.
✅ Are we showing up for the people around us?
✅ Are we considering what’s best for the team, the unit, the family?
✅ Are we lifting others when they struggle, standing together when things get tough?
If we want to achieve something great, if we want to accomplish the impossible, then we have to embrace the power of the team.
Because, in the end, no one wins alone.

Bucs Fans, Find Joy in the Legacy We Built
When you’re watching the Super Bowl this weekend, Bucs fans, remember this—both teams playing know what it’s like to face a true team.
The Chiefs?
The only Super Bowl loss on Patrick Mahomes' record came at the hands of the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV—a game where our defense never let him breathe, and our entire squad played with a level of unity that couldn’t be stopped.
The Eagles?
They can thank us for closing out Veterans Stadium in 2003 with one of the most iconic moments in franchise history—Ronde Barber’s pick-six that sealed their fate and sent us to our first-ever championship. And when they opened Lincoln Financial Field the next season, who did they host for their grand debut? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So, while we’re not in the big game this year, take pride in the fact that our team’s legacy is written in Super Bowl history.
Because no matter who lifts the Lombardi on Sunday, both the Chiefs and Eagles know—when you face the Bucs, you face a team that stands together, fights together, and wins together.
And as Maggie reminded me, that’s what makes the victory even sweeter.
